Please see our Orientation for an overview of Comm8 Communication Observation Learn about communication by observing speakers and presenters in the public forum, and then evaluate what you have learned. Examples of activities: Attend a meeting, listen to an author lecture, read or view famous speeches, listen to and evaluate a sermon, attend a workshop or seminar, observe a trial, get involved in student government, give a presentation, or teach a lesson. Cultural Communication Learn about non-verbal communication and listening appreciation through experiencing audio, visual, and fine arts, and then evaluate what you have learned. Examples of activities: Experience a multicultural event, visit an art gallery or exhibit, or attend a performance of music or dance. Movie/Video Observation Learn about communication patterns by analyzing body language and communication styles, and then evaluate what you have learned. Examples of activities: View communication skills videos, a current film release, a rental film, a TV documentary, or a political debate/commentary. Interpersonal Observation Learn about communication behaviors by observing personal interactions, and then evaluate what you have learned. Examples of activities: Observe a communication exchange, tutor a peer, meet with a partner or small group, or practice an oral presentation. Interviews Learn the communication process one-on-one by conducting an interview with someone, and then evaluate what you have learned. Communication Modules These are self-contained exercises that are communication themed or activities that improve your communication skills. Examples of modules: Conquer That Fear: Dealing With Speech Anxiety, Learning to Use the Library, Couples and Communication, Siblings and Communication I (Our First Peer) and II (Birth Order: Fact or Fiction), Scrambled Outlines, “Thank You for Smoking” Movie Analysis, and Famous Speeches Analysis. Book Report Read a book from the approved list posted on Blackboard Learning and complete a written report. Verification Forms One page forms you fill out to analyze your communication activity and verify your hours. You will be filling out a verification form for each of your activities based on five required catergories. Examples of forms. Required Minimum Activities These are the activities you need to do first before you do additional activities to build up your hours towards your grade.
